Bangalore Metro Phase 2A Likely to start in December 2026
Bengaluru’s much-awaited Namma Metro Phase 2A on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) is now expected to start running in December 2026. This metro line is being built to reduce heavy traffic and make daily travel easier for people who live and work along ORR.
The Outer Ring Road is one of the occupied roads in Bangalore. Many people use it every day to travel to offices, schools and colleges. Because of delays in construction work, commuters will have to wait a little longer for the metro service to begin.

About the ORR Metro Line and Its Importance
Metro Phase 2A is an 18-kilometre-long elevated metro line that will connect KR Puram with Central Silk Board. The metro will pass through busy areas like Mahadevpura, Marathahalli, Bellandur, HSR Layout and Ibbalur. These areas have many offices, houses and tech parks. This is why traffic problems are very common here.
Nearly 8 lakh people travel on the ORR every day. Most people use buses, cars and two-wheelers. This causes long traffic jams and slow travel, especially during office hours. When the metro starts running, it is expected to reduce traffic on the roads and help people reach their destinations faster and more comfortably.
Construction Status and Future Plans
Construction work for Metro Phase 2A started after contracts were given in 2021. The project includes building metro tracks, stations and other required systems. Officials have said that work is continuing and efforts are being made to finish the project within the new time limit.
In the future, this metro line will connect with Phase 2B, which is planned to extend the metro from KR Puram to Kempegowda International Airport. This will make travel to the airport easier for people living in the city.
For people living or buying homes in North Bengaluru, projects like Purva Northern Lights offer high-end apartments just 5–10 minutes from top business hubs such as Manyata Tech Park and Kirloskar Tech Park. The development has 2, 3, and 4 BHK units with world-class amenities. With the upcoming Bagalur Cross Aerospace Park metro station on Phase 2B, residents will get easy metro access in 20-30 minutes.
Even though the project has been delayed, the December 2026 opening of Metro Phase 2A is expected to bring big relief to commuters and improve public transport on the Outer Ring Road.
